Pro Weight Loss Coach Exposes Hyped up Diet Books
A Sacramento-area fitness trainer and coach of 20 years pull back the curtain on hyped up diet books and so called "miracle weight loss plans"

/Diet - Weight Loss News Articles/ - February 27, 2008 - Rob Jacobs, successful Sacramento area fitness coach and health consultant has established a site dedicated to giving direction to people who have become frustrated with hyped up diet books and weight loss programs, and are seeking more legitimate information.

It's well known that many would-be healthy dieters and workout enthusiasts become inundated with fitness information from several sources: free internet info, blogs, diet books (mainstream AND lesser-known) along with a slew of supplements, special diets, and silly fat-targeting exercises that have their own thirty minute infomercials.

Rob says, "The problem is there is no one making sense out of all the junk in this industry; there's no authority or famous, trusted reviewer on this stuff, the consumer is just left to throw books and supplements at the problem until something works. Usually it doesn't."

After working with clients one-on-one for several years, Rob says, a pattern started to emerge. "Everyone was coming to me with the same misinformation. I was hearing the same health and fitness lies over and over. I figured I should do what I can to get the word out."

The first thing Rob brings to our attention is that there is no such thing as "spot reduction." "You can't do it." Rob told us. Instead of trying to target fat in one specific area of the body, such as belly fat, Rob instead recommends an overall reduction in body fat levels, the kind that can only be achieved with proper dieting. "You can throw out all of those silly ab curler machines."

As far as magic pills and supplements claiming to trim body fat levels or burn off extra pounds, Rob warns that none of it works, and seldom, if you do get some sort of result, it comes at a hefty toll on the body. Legitimate products intended to be more convenient, such as meal replacement shakes and protein powders are fine. Occasionally, a natural product does come along such as creatine, that actually increases the body's efficiency in building muscle, "But don't expect something like this to take the 'work' out of 'workout', Rob qualified for us.

But all is not lost. Rob's site does recommend a few diet books that can produce results, if followed correctly. Rob tends to favor the more independently published material over bookstore diet books:

"I've really only found about one to two books out there that really tell the truth about fitness and weight loss, and you can't just walk into a Barnes & Noble and buy them. It's funny how the truth really isn't what everybody thinks. This is NOT the kind of stuff people are talking about" says Rob.
