Americans Use Massage Therapy to Achieve New Year's Weight Loss Goals, Cellulite Reduction
The fastest growing massage therapy franchise in the U.S. sees an uptick in consumers seeking help with their weight loss resolutions for 2010.

DEERFIELD, IL, January 09, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Just as fitness clubs across the county see an uptick in traffic from millions of Americans seeking to lose weight in the New Year, massage therapists are experiencing an influx of clients taking advantage of sports and deep tissue massages to help them shed the pounds - and cellulite - faster.

"The key to expediting weight loss using massage therapy is consistency," said Daniel Jaramillo, LMT, Corporate Lead Therapist with Massage Heights, a national franchise of nearly 60 massage therapy retreats. "We see an increase in demand for our sports massages in January, but just as with exercise, the members who routinely receive massage through the year receive the greatest health benefits."

Jaramillo describes three popular massages among consumers looking to boost weigh-loss results and decrease the visibility of cellulite:

• Pre - Workout - This sports massage prepares the body's muscles for rigorous exercise. A professional massage therapist assists with a variety of dynamic stretches to warm up the muscle fibers. This massage allows for a longer workout, reduces risk of injury and increases flexibility and range of motion.

• Post - Workout - This sports massage incorporates static stretching to help the body recover from exercise faster and get you back to the gym sooner. Long, smooth strokes drain lactic acid and protein build-up in muscles that occur with exercise. Regular treatments push out waste and help the body consume more water and nutrients.

• Spot Reduction Therapy - The massage therapist works the body's intermediate tissues, or subcutaneous tissue that lies directly beneath the skin layer. The process of kneading, friction and rolling penetrates deep into the affected body tissue to break down fat cells, thus reducing the visibility of cellulite. Treatment must be done at least twice a month to keep up the results.
